Bleeding the coolant system on a Rans S6

I have had a lot of problems bleeding the coolant system on my Rans S6 resulting in overheating and loosing all the coolant out of the system. with the constant need to top it up. It seems that this is not an unusual thing and several Rans owners have had the same problem. Jim Batzli has told me of the method recommended by Rans to remove all the air out of the sytem and the system seems to have worked for me.

Remove the cap below the radiator ( with the upper cap on tight nothing will run out) and fill.  Next move up to the radiator and there is a bleed screw by the top cap – remove it & run a drill bit through the hole to get through the silicone … when you get fluid, replace screw with fresh silicone & top off top fill cap.  I put the main wheel on a pile of bricks on that side to try and make the bleed point the highest point in the system.

The other thing I did to help is replace the steel Rans coolant overflow bottle with the Rotax version as it is clear and you can then see how much coolant is in the bottle. You will need to reposition the bottle away from the exhaust.
